Obituary of Don Ramshaw

On April 12, 2024 Don passed away peacefully at his home at the age of 84.

He is survived by his loving wife Glenda; his children Perry (Ivy) Ramshaw, Kim (Brad) Burki, John (Julie) Ramshaw, Ainslie (Sal) Loria, AJ (Jackie) Waugh; his sister Shirley Elcombe and her family; his mother-in-law Edna Stefaniuk; and all Glenda's siblings and their families.

He was predeceased by his father John Ramshaw; his mother Irene Campbell; his fathers in-law Walter Stefaniuk and Don Cliff; and his brother in-law Al Elcombe.

Don was a wonderful father and grandfather. There were many days spent swimming Grandma and Grandpa’s pool under his watchful eye and he spent many hours in hockey rinks, gyms, and at the dance studio cheering his grandchildren on at whatever they were doing. His greatest pleasure in the last few years was seeing his great grandchildren, whether in person or over FaceTime. He will be terribly missed by his 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren: Codey (Tielle) Burki and their children Jett and Elle, Cashton Burki, Colton (Kat) Burki, Sara (Brent) Ramshaw and their children Roman and Yale, Nicole (Aaron) Ramshaw and their children Jaxon and Noah, Brooke-Lynne (Victor) Ramshaw, Alana Ramshaw, Andrew Loria, Rio Loria, Sofia Waugh and Raelyn Waugh.

Don spent most of his life in his hometown of Winnipeg where he worked for the CN for many years and spent as much time on the golf course as the weather and mosquitoes would allow. He was a wonderful golfer and won many Club Championships at the Winnipeg Canoe Club, Southwood and even won one in Texas at Canyon Lake. Remarkably, he had 11 holes in one! One for each grandchild! The many hours he spent on the golf course brought him great pleasure and he made so many great friends along the way.

After he and Glenda were both retired, they along with their animals, moved to West Kelowna. He loved the golf, the weather, and the companionship of the many friends he made both on and off the course. The 19^th hole was often on their deck at home with some of his famous wine. He enjoyed many an evening sitting on the deck, watching the clouds move over the mountains, listening to Elvis and petting one of his animals. Squeak, Penny, Susan, Abby, Dot, Daisy, Roxy and Toby were all incredibly lucky to have been “rescued” by him and Glenda.

The last few years were difficult for Don, but he always maintained a positive outlook and never took himself too seriously. In his passing, we are comforted to know he is free from the pain of dementia.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society.

A private family memorial has taken place.
