Obituary of Andris Voldemars Jandavs

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andy, our fierce loving husband & father proud brother, joyful & silly uncle & grandfather who peacefully passed away with his daughter by his side on November 25, 2019. 

He leaves to mourn his wife, Heather of 54 years; sons, Michael and Cody; daughter, Debby; granddaughter, Zoey ‘movie star’ and his grandson, Nikolas Andrew who Grandpa was often amused by. Dad also leaves to mourn his dearest younger brother, Martin (Vivian); sister-in-law, Dolores; and his numerous nieces & nephews. 

Dad was born January 29th, 1943 in Jelgava, Latvia. He is predeceased by his mother, Aina; father, Voldemars; and eldest brother, George. 

Dad was very proud of his family.  He had a special relationship with every one of us. He shared wonderful life stories with us; spoke his truths and used humour and sarcasm to catch anyone’s attention. Dad would give the shirt off his back to anyone who needed it and did so till the very end. He would put his own needs last knowing his loved ones were taken care of. 

Dad lived his life enjoying many things such as hunting, golf & tinkering on his vintage Willys Jeep. He enjoyed many sports throughout his life and would be over the moon that the Winnipeg Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup this year. 

His biggest love was at Twin Lakes Beach, MB. Since the 1950’s dads time was spent at the family cottage with his dear grandparents, who held a very special place in his heart. This is where dad loved to build & create, explore & hunt, be with his family, where he met his wife & soon passed on his love & traditions to his children. 

Providing for his young family Dad worked in Masonry, from Red River College and took great pride in his art & craftsmanship that he created in numerous homes & businesses. Later Dad moved onto a dedicated career as a Manitoba Sheriff’s Officer where he found great friendships  & had a proud sense of duty to the civil service for 24 years. 

As a very young child, Dad immigrated to Canada. Born in Latvia & spent his childhood in Denmark during WWII. All of his memories & stories meant a great deal to Dad through his life. He held a very special bond with his brother George & lifelong friend, John who have predeceased Dad & who shared the struggles of being new immigrants together through silly shenanigans & lots of laughs. Dad was looking forward to joining those men on his next journey.

A very special thank you goes out to Dad’s sister-in-law, Dolores. Dad was very fortunate to have you. And thank you to the Acute Cardiac Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their amazing care. 

At our family’s request there will be no funeral service but we would like you to take a personal moment to remember a fun-loving memory that you had of Andy.  A private celebration of his life will take place in Summer 2020 at Twin Lakes Beach,MB.
