Obituary of Jeannette Denisa Swan

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Jeannette on Sunday, May 5, 2024 at age 94. Jeannette was a Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Daughter, Sister, Aunty, Wife, Partner and Friend.

Jeannette was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba where she was educated at St. Joseph’s Academy by the Grey Nuns. She took care of her brother and sisters while her Mom went to work. After the Manitoba flood of 1950, at age 21, Jeannette and her family moved to Winnipeg where she worked at Great Western Garments and as a waitress at a local restaurant.

Jeannette and her husband, Jack Swan adopted two daughters and raised three nephews and a niece. It was a busy home that welcomed Jack’s brother Dave as well.  She spent some time in Calgary while Jack was in the military and made some memorable friends.

Jeannette shared memories of dancing at the Belgian club in St. Boniface in her youth. She loved traditional country music. Albums played on the hi-fi stereo included Kitty Wells, Hank Snow, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Charley Pride, Loretta Lynn and Patsy Cline.

Later in life, Jeannette met Joe and they kept each other company for many years. Her and Joe liked to spend time talking to people they met while having coffee at Eaton’s downtown.

She touched many lives and made a positive impact on many people who are grateful and remember her lovingly.

Jeannette is predeceased by her mother Angelique; father Antonin; sisters Eileen, Clemence, Lorraine; and brothers Roger and Tony.

She leaves behind her sister Pierrette; brothers Marcel, Hector (Donna) and Horace; daughters Michelle (Walter) and Jacqueline; nieces Helena, Beatrice, Monique and Caroline; nephews Vince, Clyde, Howard, Marcel, Ed, Leslie and Gord; grandchildren Valerie, Nadine, Ashley and Shay; and grandniece and grandnephew Brigitte and Colin.

Our family is deeply grateful for the loving care provided by the staff at Actionmarguerite St. Boniface over the years.

We will gather at the graveside to humbly let the angels welcome Jeannette to her new home.

“What a Mother you were. When children needed a home and a chance to have a future. You Mom, you were there. All the gratitude, love and prayers. I spoke to God and he said he had a Mother very much like you. Mother of children, may God caress you dear Mother.”

In your hands, O Lord,

We humbly entrust our sister.

In this life you embraced her with your tender love;

deliver her now from every evil

and bid her eternal rest.

The old order has passed away:

welcome her into paradise,

where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain,

but fullness of peace and joy

with your Son and the Holy Spirit

forever and ever.
