I only met Chris a couple of times at serious coffee listening to him and my husband Dave talk everything motorcycles back when he was the the "tall guy on a Royal Enfield". He seemed such a gracious interesting man then and I would hear some fascinating stories (second hand through my man) gleaned from many hours of shared coffees on the hill over the years. My deepest condolences to his family and many friends.

Oh, Chris! I knew you so little. As a friend primarily of Lenore, I actually knew him little, and it "just happened" I was visiting them, in the house at Shawnigan Lake, when he rode off for points east. It delighted me he was going to my native homeland of Ottawa and eastern Ontario. As a matter of fact, I was the one in the house that Monday morning when Chris rode off with a gentle acceleration, to the left. It was a bad moment, and I didn't get outside to stand beside him as he left, but I said to myself, "Well, I'll see him again," and uttered a prayer. (Most of the neighbours were aghast he was doing this at his age, but I understood: I've ridden too, and it's magic!) Anyway -- yeah, I'll see him again. And, you know, I will: as a believer, I know life is not taken away but changed, and for him I strongly suspect the change is going to be blissful. My love to Lenore and her friends and family, to all Chris's friends and family and roadmates at Serious and in the Valley. Peace,
Chris Thomas

Everyone in the motorcycle community in the Cowichan Valley and Lower Vancouver Island who met Chris immediately found friendship. Chris posted daily on the LIRC FB page while he made the trip out east and on his return. I'm sure everyone was waiting for Chris to return to hear of his many stories of his trip. The Serious Coffee Crew in Mill Bay will miss Chris immensely. My sincere condolences to all of Chris' family.

So many memories! Of Chris cooking the Thanksgiving turkey, giving shoulder rides to the kids, taking family members out on his boat, arguing world events with other passionate souls, arriving for gatherings with Lenore and their many bags, and his hobbies - oh, his hobbies! Wine making, guitar playing, tinkering with bike and boat, writing. We loved Chris and we will miss him.
