Obituary of Wayne Stephen Tomlinson
Sadly, Wayne Stephen Tomlinson passed away Sunday July 21, 2024, at the Grace General Hospital surrounded by family and friends. He had been ill for some time.
Born March 16, 1968, Wayne was the first of 5 siblings. His younger days were spent adventuring in the backyard ‘bush’ with his cousins and the neighbourhood kids. Wayne played soccer and football, delivered the Free Press and even hoed sugar beets and picked potatoes on his Grandparents farm. Summer meant camping and visiting family near and far. The friendships made during this time endured and were celebrated at a ’50 Years of Friends’ party in 2023.
His education included Dieppe School, St. Paul’s High School, Shaftsbury and the U of W.
Wayne worked at various jobs-including a stint in the Alberta oil patch, before settling in at Arnold Brothers Transport. During his years of service with ABT he connected with many and appreciated their friendship.
Wayne took great pleasure in his game collection and often had game nights with friends. He enjoyed good food, trying out various cuisines, lunching out with family (529 was a favourite), and ordering in. We know he would have enjoyed one last Fat Boy Burger.
Wayne always had plans to travel and he was able to visit family in Alberta this winter and Virginia this past spring. Thank you to all who made these trips special for him.
We know Wayne loved and appreciated family and would be there anytime we needed. We sometimes referred to Wayne as a ‘Grumpy Old Man” but he was OUR ‘Grumpy Old Man’ and we love him and will miss him dearly.
Wayne is survived by his mother Mary, brothers Jonathan and Brian, sisters Janet, Gwen (Chad) nephews and niece Kaleb, Levi & Julia. He is predeceased by his father William.
A private afternoon of remembrance for family and friends to be held at a later date.
