Karen Nancy Switzer

12 September 1945 – 10 October 2024

 

It is with a heavy heart that we announce, Karen Switzer passed peacefully at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre on the evening of 10 October 2024, with her daughters, grandson and son-in-law by her side. 

 

Karen was a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born in Winnipeg and was the middle child of 15 children born to Simon and Katherine Whalen.  She was predeceased by her husband Lawrence Switzer had two daughters. She actively enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren participate in sporting events, was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion as well as, an active member of the Ukrainian and German clubs of Winnipeg. She will be fondly remembered for her love of animals and love of small family gatherings especially during the Christmas season. 

 

Karen is survived by her daughters Lisa Switzer and Tammy Anderson (Dwight); brother Wayne Whalen (Karen), sister Joan Schultz; and grandchildren Melissa (Kyle Spivak), Melody ( Craig Casburn), and Bailey Urban, Andrew Watson, Ashley Harvey (Cameron) and Mathew Watson (Morgan Bernier); great-grandchildren Nathan Watson-Thrush, Maeve Casburn and Finn Urban-Spivak. 

 

A graveside memorial and interment will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Avenue, 26 October 2024 at 2:00 p.m.
