Obituary of Clemence Le Cunff

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mom, Clemence Le Cunff (Le Roux), on January 14, 2020, at the age of 80. She is predeceased by her parents Julien and Mathurine Le Roux (Gloux), her sisters Marie-Ange Dupras (Le Roux), Yolande Le Roux and her brothers Rene and Armand Le Roux. Left to cherish her memories are her sister Yvonne Le Roux, her brother Denis Le Roux, her ex-husband Clement Le Cunff, her sisters-in-law Alice Le Roux, Lucille (Gerry) Le Floch, Evelyn (Marty) Jerrom, her brothers-in-law Raymond (Don) Breton, Ronald (Donna) Le Cunff, her children Gisele (Jean) Maynard, Russell (Chris) Le Cunff, her four grandchildren Raymond (Chantal) Maynard, Roxanne (Dan) Maynard, Monique Maynard and Jeramey (Amanda) Le Cunff, her 7 great-grandchildren Sophie Maynard, Talia Donais, Theodore Maynard, Ava Donais, Xander Donais, Zayla Donais and Jessalynn Le Cunff and numerous nieces and nephews and her wonderful friends. Mom grew up on a farm in St. Claude, Manitoba with her mom and six siblings. She was the 2nd youngest child, so she only had her brother Denis to boss around. Her father passed away when she was 6 years old. At 16 years old, she lived with her grandmother in the town of St. Claude and attained her grade 11. At the age of 20, she married Clement Le Cunff and moved to Winnipeg. They raised 2 children, Gisele and Russell. She was a kind and loving mother who made fantastic baking and loved to play games. She was exceptionally good in lawn darts and loved to watch hockey, curling and her soaps on TV. She loved card games like 500, crib, crazy eights and rummy. She was a homemaker for most of her life, cleaned people’s homes part-time and was a caretaker in an apartment block in the Maples area. When Mom was in her thirties, she decided she wanted to learn to ride a bike, to skate and to drive a car. So she hopped on the bike and hit a tree, then she hopped in the car and attained her license, but backing out of our driveway, she hit a tree. Oh, those poor trees! At least there were no trees to hit when she learned to skate. Mom did not like to waste anything, she wrapped everything in the fridge or freezer in saran wrap or plastic bags. She would have been a great spokeswoman for Saran Wrap; She used it for everything! Mom had four grandchildren, Raymond, Roxanne, Monique and Jeramey, whom she loved very much. They camped in St. Malo for about 15 years to enjoy the outdoors with their children and grandchildren. Mom could not swim but she made many miles on her paddle boat. She really loved that paddle boat. Many fond memories were made enjoying the outdoors in St. Malo. In 2000, at the age of 59, mom fought a year-long battle of cancer in her nose and throat. It was a very difficult year for mom but she won that battle for 20 years or so we thought. Many thanks to Carol Perry and Marie Maynard for all the support they gave mom during that cancer battle. In 2008, mom became a great-grandmother and now had 7 great-grandchildren, Sophie, Talia, Theo, Ava, Xander, Zayla and Jessalynn. She really enjoyed her time with those beautiful children. She lived in the Maples area for 20 years then moved to Accueil Colombien in St. Boniface in 2015. She loved to play “Sac de Sable” and would help with the Bazaare. She made some great friends along the way. The family thanks the staff on the 2nd floor in the Concordia hospital for providing great care to mom and for being so kind and helpful. Just like a family member recently stated in their mother’s obituary, I am encouraging people to see their physician regularly. Finding out that mom had serious health issues at the 11th hour was quite a shock for us. Mom was a kind, loving and generous person who always put others in front of herself, until her last breath. Mom loved to hum, although we weren’t always sure what she was humming. Now she can hum to her heart’s content for she is in a better place and the pain is gone forever. Bye dee jo Mom, we are so sorry you had to go. It’s time for us to be apart, but you will always be in our heart. And when the time is right, we will all reunite. Love you mom and miss you like crazy! A private ceremony will be held in St. Claude, Manitoba at a later date. Mom’s brother, Denis purchased the burial plot and headstone. Thank you Denis for providing such an amazing gift for mom. Thank you for all the support we received during this difficult time. Mom loved you all.
