Obituary of James Fredrick Boyce

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather Jim Boyce at the Seven Oaks Hospital on July 30, 2020 at the age of 81 years. Left to cherish Jim’s memory is his beloved wife of 56 years, Dolores (nee Ainsworth); son Jim; daughters Tracey Croom (Duane) and Kristine; and grandchildren Rachelle Croom (Nick) and Tyler Croom. He also leaves behind his brothers Ron, Ken (Joan) and Bob (Judy); and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will also be deeply missed by his beloved dog Stryker; cats Meko, Cici, Teake and Nod; grand-dogs Cami, Brew and Zeke; and grand-cat Autumn. Jim was predeceased in life by his parents Fredrick and Doris. Jim was born on July 13, 1939 in Winnipeg and grew up in the East Kildonan neighborhood of the city. He attended Red River College and became a journeyman electrician. After a year long courtship, he married the love of his life Dolores in 1963. They eventually moved to Transcona where they raised their family. Jim started off his electrician career working for Jet Electric, then moving on to working for the Federal Government before he ultimately became self-employed when he opened “Jim’s Electric”. In the early 1980’s, the family bought a cottage where they would spend many summers having fun and making memories together. Jim also enjoyed going out for dinner, camping, and being sociable; getting together with family and friends often. Jim and Dolores were keen concert goers and would never miss Harry Belefonte when he came to town. Jim was also a long time Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan, and Dolores and he were season ticket holders for over 20 years. Before Jim’s health worsened and made travel impractical, they would go to Regina each year for the labour day classic. Also, an avid Blue Jay’s fan, he and Dolores would take an annual trip to Minneapolis to cheer on their baseball team, and maybe squeeze in an NFL game too if they could. Jim will be deeply missed and forever loved by all who knew him. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. The family thanks the nurses and health care aids on the 4th floor at the Seven Oaks Hospital, especially those who cared for Jim in Units 8 and 9.
