Obituary of Jan Majersky

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ján Majersky beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who passed away peacefully on December 15th at the age of 78. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years Giselle; daughter Yvette Banfield (Dan); grandchildren Carter Banfield, Kaloni Banfield (Kyle), Jody Unrau (Kris), Chris Banfield (Kirsten); great-grandchildren Noah, Greysen, Addie; and many family and friends in Slovakia and Canada. He was predeceased by his parents Rosalia and Augustin; and brother Ladislav. Ján was born in Bratislava, Slovakia on January 24, 1942. Following the invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 by Warsaw Pact Forces, he left his homeland with his wife and daughter to escape communist regime and immigrated to Canada. For the past 52 years Ján and his family made Winnipeg their home. He was a kind-hearted man of few words. He loved his family and he enjoyed spending time with his grandson Carter. Ján loved to dance and party with his friends. He loved nature, suntanning, travelling and repairing whatever needed to be repaired. He was an electronic technician. He worked at arcades where he serviced pinball machines, video games and computers. He was battling health issues for the last seven years and spent his time playing video games, reading and watching tv shows and movies. He also loved riding his scooter on pathways, Assiniboine Park and especially at his favourite place Birds Hill Park. This was the place where Ján and Giselle rode each of their scooters for hours. The time spent at the park was where he was the happiest. He will be truly missed by his family and friends and forever be in their hearts. The family would like to thank the team of doctors, nurses and health care aids at Health Sciences Centre and Concordia Hospital. A private family internment will take place at a later date.
