Obituary of Allan & Valerie Boyd
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved parents Allan and Valerie Boyd on December 24, 2020 in Sanford, Manitoba.
Left to mourn Allan and Valerie’s passing is son Jamie (Kelly); daughter Stephanie Curtis (Kyle); grandchildren Mackenzie Curtis, Mathieu Boyd, Monica Boyd, Joshua Votto and Sydney Votto; and great-grandchildren Keenan Friesen and Penelope Friesen. Allan is also survived by his brothers Stuart (Vera), Kenny (Diane) and Donny (Lauren); and sister Gayle. Valerie is also survived by brothers Kenny Loney (Wendy) and Jim Loney (Donna). Allan and Valerie’s memories will also be cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Allan was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Sophie; and Valerie was predeceased by her parents Bert and Lydia Loney.
Dad grew up in Sanford, Manitoba attending Sanford Collegiate. Although she was born in Winnipeg, and moved frequently in childhood, Valerie would also eventually attend the same high school in Sanford as Allan. It was not until after high school though, that Allan and Valerie would connect, and they were married in September 1973 in Winnipeg. Dad worked at Canada Wire for many years and then went on to work for the RM of MacDonald for a further 20 years, where he would retire. Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working on his grain farm. He also coached hockey and baseball for many years in the community.
Mom was a devoted wife and mother. She was also the quintessential hockey mom and ringette mom to Jamie and Stephanie. When mom was not teaching Brownies or Sunday School in her earlier years, she could often be found outside gardening, which she thoroughly enjoyed. An accomplished gardener, many sought her out for advice on how to make theirs as beautiful as hers. Mom retired ten years ago and enjoyed being able to spend more time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, whom she and Dad both cherished.
Allan and Valerie were beloved by many and will be missed by all who knew them.
A private family memorial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the RM of MacDonald Fire Department or to Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.
