Obituary of Arthur Gary Miller

After a hard fought battle endured with courage but always maintaining his sense of humour Gary passed away with his wife by his side on January 5, 2021 at the Grace Hospital. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Joyce, daughter Tamara (Jason), and sons Paul and Cameron. Gary had many wonderful friends, one with whom he shared a special bond, Marie France. Gary was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Irene, brother Norman and sister Sherry. He was a long time resident of Winnipeg growing up in the West End. A proud member of the Winnipeg Fire Department joining September 1, 1963. He enjoyed the camaraderie of “the guys” and could always tell you a great story about some of the shenanigans that went on. He was with the FD for almost 34 years before retiring on July 20, 1997 as Captain and Acting District Chief. Gary was a sports fan and went to many Bomber, Jets, Moose and Goldeyes games. He loved the beach and travelling which was always an adventure when you were with him. A true animal lover he had many dogs and cats over the years. His special companion “Meiko” was always by his side, he loved his Siberians. Physically when walking was not an option, he would run the Huskies beside the scooter stopping to chat and visit with neighbours. He enjoyed his retirement to the fullest. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Kenneth Van Ameyde for his exceptional care. Also to the Grace Hospital ER, Ward Two South and his nurse Patti for the kindness and compassion shown at this difficult time. To the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedics, you are an amazing group. A special thank you to Ted Kuryluk for all your help this past week. In lieu of flowers, if you choose, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. Due to COVID 19 restrictions no formal service will be held.
