Obituary of Marie Therese O'Rourke
It is with great sadness that we announce that on August 15, 2021, Marie, our beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away at the St. Boniface hospital in Winnipeg after a sudden illness.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband of 62 years Patrick; sons Leo (Ruth) and Damian (Wendy); grandchildren Tyler (Elise), Dixie (Louis), Royce (Taylor), Zane, Evan and Marla (Tyler). Also mourning her passing are her brothers Tony (Laurie) and Brendan (Edwina); sister Catherine (Paddy); as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Marie was predeceased in life by her parents Leo and Elizabeth; brother Eamon and sister Patricia.
Marie was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1937. She married the love of her life Patrick in 1959 and together with their two young boys emigrated to Canada in 1965. They settled in Winnipeg and soon began to build a life for themselves. Marie was a wonderfully loving and caring mother and wife who cherished family gatherings and welcomed all into their home.
Marie began to work and enjoyed her time with Valour Road Pharmacy where she established life-long friendships. As the years passed Marie worked for Manitoba Blue Cross retiring in May, 1997.
Marie and Paddy especially enjoyed spending their time at their summer retreat in Morden’s Meadows, Manitoba. Her greatest joy in life was to have her grandchildren, family and friends out to visit where joy and laughter were in abundance. Marie leaves a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness she gifted to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be missed by many but none more so than the love of her life for 62 years, Patrick.
When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
