Obituary of Ollie Chelada

With her daughter by her side, peacefully on December 9, 2021, Ollie passed away at the age of 95 years old. She has taken her place in heaven reuniting with her husband and dance partner, Chuck. Ollie will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Cathy (Joe); grandchildren Amanda (Shawn) and Trevor (Jenny); great-grandchildren Elise and Lexus; sister-in-law Olga Shkolny, and many other family members. She was predeceased by her husband Michael (Chuck); brother John; son-in-law Fred and cousin Bob who was like a brother to her. Ollie married Chuck in 1951 and resided in Winnipeg with her mother and raised their daughter Cathy. Ollie was always impeccably dressed and would get her hair done every week by her hairdresser, Denise, whom she went to for over 40+ years. Even when the dementia started to affect her memory, she still made sure her top and pants matched; put on her earrings and did her makeup. She loved to travel. Ollie and Chuck travelled to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Phoenix and frequented Florida where they spent a lot of their time with Ollie’s brother John and wife Helen. Ollie also loved taking her grandchildren Amanda and Trevor to Grand Forks when they were younger to hang out at the hotel’s pool and spend time with them. Ollie and Chuck used to entertain frequently with themed parties like the roaring 20s or Klondike days. She will always be remembered for being the life of the party. She loved to dance. Whenever she heard music, no matter where it was, she would get up and dance. She was also a member of the Legion Branch #141 Ladies Auxillary and spent a considerable amount of time at the legion with Chuck. She loved her summers at the cabin at Winnipeg Beach with family and friends and made sure everyone was well fed. She loved cooking for the family. Her nephew Michael, has fond memories of the dishes that Ollie would prepare; like pidpenky mushrooms in cream sauce with onions. Her roast beef was always prepared perfectly. Plus, we cannot forget her meat perishke and cabbage perishke. Her grandchildren loved her perogies and will use her recipe. Ollie loved going to the casinos and going on the bus trips. Whenever her nephew Don was in town, that is where you would find them. She also was an avid bomber and jets fan. The family would like to thank the staff at Chez Nous for their care while she was there from February 2019 to March 2021. The family would also like to thank all the health care aides and nursing staff at Holy Family Nursing Home for their care and kindness while she was there until her passing. As per Ollie’s wishes, there will be no service and cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ollie’s memory may be made to The Alzheimer’s Society.
