Obituary of Tania Martha Kochan
Tania Kochan passed away suddenly on January 18, 2022, days shy of her 80th birthday.
She is survived by her husband Phil Kochan; brothers Gerry, Dennis and Tim; sister-in-law Heather; nephews Chris and Ryan; and great-niece and nephew Alice and William.
Tania was predeceased by her parents; and her sister-in-law Jeaninne.
Tania was born in 1942, the second child of George and Doris Demetrioff. She grew up in St. Boniface, surrounded by a large circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. After completing high school, Tania started a 37-year career in the accounts department of Manitoba Hydro. Retirement took her first to Manigotogan, and then back to Winnipeg.
Throughout her life, Tania had many hobbies and interests. She was an avid and successful bowler. She regularly attended Blue Bomber and later Goldeyes games. Reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, walking, travel, and socializing with friends were among her other interests, although declining health in recent years limited her ability to enjoy many of these activities.
One interest that surprised some was Tania’s relationship with food. She was a tiny person who loved to eat, especially anything new or exotic, so we take some comfort in knowing that Tania passed away with a novel and her favourite snack foods by her side.
Cremation has taken place. A private family internment will be held in the spring.
We ask that you honour Tania’s memory in your own special way: say a prayer, raise a glass of cheer, go for a walk or hug a loved one.
