Obituary of Lana Darlene Bilenduke
It is with great sadness that the family of Lana Bilenduke announces her sudden passing on February 9, 2022.
Lana will be lovingly remembered by her mother Marlene; her son Sheldon; her sisters Janice (Dick), Jody, Shelley (Wayne); her brother Wayne (Joyce); and all her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
She was predeceased by her father John in 2001.
Lana was born in Fort Churchill, Manitoba and made Churchill her home. Everyone who knew Lana during her short life on earth would say that Lana was a smart, dependable, feisty and fun-loving person.
Among her former colleagues at the Legion and her longtime friends, Lana was known as a hardworking thoughtful co-worker. Lana was very happy to sit around a bonfire and laugh and sing. She loved her music and she was always so happy to share the time she went to see Rod Stewart, KISS and Ozzy in concert in Winnipeg. Lana was a classic rock girl and liked to participate in karaoke if she had the right supporters (you know who you are) behind her to encourage her to get up there!
Lana was proud to be from Churchill and was recently adamant that the next Churchill Homecoming was going to take place in Churchill. All on her own at first, she began sending Facebook messages out seeking supporters for the next homecoming. She was overwhelmed with positive support and began the task of seeking out airline specials, hotels, venue locations, caterers, and musicians. She was joined by other members of the community shortly afterwards as this became serious. Unfortunately, the homecoming was not to happen because of Covid. Lana was sure to let everyone know it was still happening, but not yet. It will happen Lana, and you will be there in spirit and in our thoughts and hearts as we celebrate your hard work on your desire to get everyone together again.
Aunty Lana was proud of and loved all her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews so much. She remembered every birthday and always posted greetings and photos before anyone got out of bed in the morning. That goes along with her entire family. She never forgot a birthday, anniversary or event. She had a memory the size of ten people.
Lana did not have much but what she possessed was always shared. She loved to cook and bake and was very proud of this. We would all salivate at her photos she shared on Facebook.
Lana loved her dad with all her heart and never missed an opportunity to wish him a happy heavenly birthday or share a photo of him on Facebook. Lana is now safely and happily with dad telling him about the last 20 years and how they should be at the homecoming. And they will be.
Lana’s family has been comforted by the outpouring of love and thoughtful kind words and stories of experiences they shared with her. Our heart goes out to all of you.
The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of the St. Boniface hospital ICU2 for their dedication and support during the weeks she was in their care. We will miss her so much as she was such a huge part of our life and events.
Lana has been cremated and her family will announce a memorial service in Churchill on a warm summer day in 2022 on Jockville, to be announced at a later date.
Thank you for being a friend, a pal, an ear, an accomplice, and for just being here for Lana.
And for her legion friends, she would appreciate if you would all have a “Lana Drink” on her.
