Obituary of Joyce Marguerite Lindsay

Celebration of Life will be held June 11, 2022 at 2:00pm, at St. Saviour's Anglican Church, 690 Munroe Avenue. Joyce Lindsay has come to the end of her wonderful journey here with us. Anyone who knew her knows that she lived life to the fullest and was always ready to have some fun. She was born in Winnipeg and lived her life surrounded by people who loved her and will miss her dearly. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Rod (Roderick); her four children: Catherine (Stan) Burton, Cheryl Davis (Jim Dalsin), Marguerite Lindsay (Arthur Neufeld) and Richard (Brenda) Lindsay; six grandchildren Jonathan (Stephanie) Tyton, Jennifer (Ryan) Kelley, Stephen Burton, Garith Neufeld, Matthew Lindsay, and Michael Lindsay. As well, she has four great grandchildren: Kelwyn, Easton, Thalia and Archer Tyton. Joyce is also survived by her siblings Eileen Knight, John Blair, Charlotte Wells and Shirley Ferrier. She was predeceased by her sisters Doreen Jennings and Alice Stewart. She is also survived by many other extended family members and friends. Family and friends were an important part of Joyce’s life and she loved to celebrate precious moments with them. She really enjoyed a party and loved to dance. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren was her greatest joy. Wherever her family was, Joyce would be there to see them and spend time with them. Joyce was always up for a new adventure in both her personal and professional lives. She went back to school after raising her four children, completed her Child Care Diploma and then became a Day Care Director. For many years she was involved in various roles with the Sons of Scotland and at one point was the Chief of the Lord Selkirk Camp. Through her affiliation with Sons of Scotland she became an Insurance Agent after attaining her Insurance License. She was also a Marriage Commissioner and loved celebrating that special time with those she married. While filling all these other roles Joyce was also very involved with the Canadian Legion and for years was the Poppy Coordinator for Downtown Winnipeg. She was very active in the church where she participated in readings, was a Sunday School Superintendent and at one point the President of the A.C.W. As well, she was very involved in Girl Guides and was a Brown Owl for many years. Another aspect of her adventurous nature was her love of travel. Joyce planned family vacations every year for her family. There were many memorable trips and all of her children and grandchildren will cherish the special memories of trips they’ve had with Mom and Grandma. Rod had the pleasure of being her partner through all those adventures. Through the years there were some locations that Joyce returned to many times that had a special place in her heart. She loved spending summers at Falcon Lake with her family, travelling to Yuma with Rod for the winters, and of course heading to Las Vegas whenever the opportunity arose. She also loved to travel to visit her children and her sisters. All those who knew and loved Joyce will be invited to join us for a Celebration of her Life that touched so many. We will be planning something at a later date so that all those who want to join us will be able to. As soon as the details are finalized we will update this posting. In lieu of flowers we are asking for donations to support Parkinson's Research or the Canadian Cancer Society.
