Obituary of Georgina Helen Antonation

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Georgina Helen Louise Antonation (nee Blanchard) on September 10, 2022. She leaves to mourn her loving children Kathy, Valerie, David, Dennis, June and Janet; grandchildren (Jason, Marc, Bobby, Cheryl, Michelle, Jenny, Kevin, Chris, Tina, Allie, Maria, Vicky, Bernardo, Blythe, Amanda); several great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Georgina was pre-deceased by her husband Archie; her sisters Hazel and Joyce; and her parents Agnes and Joseph. Georgina touched the lives of everyone that knew her with her shy, kind demeanor. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Georgina was born in Portage La Prairie, Manitoba in 1931. In her younger years, she was on the David Livingston All Girls Baseball Team that won the city championship in the 1940's. She talked endlessly about her time spent in Boston Bar, BC during her late teens and all of the adventures that she had there. She worked at the Officers Mess in Rivers, Manitoba in Autumn 1954 and was present when Prince Philip visited. She also worked at Dip's Restaurant in Rivers as a waitress where she met Archie Antonation. After a three-month courtship, they were married. Georgina (baba) doted on her grandchildren and spoiled them with her shortbread cookies, chocolate cupcakes, butter tarts and famous Christmas dinners. Anything she made was magical and enjoyed by everyone. She loved to watch her Blue Jays, old classic movies, crime shows and Days of Our Lives as she sipped a nice hot cup of Sanka coffee. She loved music that ranged from bagpipes to country and especially many renditions of the song Ave Maria. Her dad played the violin so of course she enjoyed listening to "old time fiddle" songs. Not many people knew this, but she could play the harmonica and loved to hear it played in songs. She loved to crotchet and knit and all of her creations were cherished by everyone who received them. She also loved to plant flowers in the front yard and always appreciated gifts of fresh flowers in the house. She was also an avid bingo player for many years. Georgina gave a lot and never asked for anything in return, as she was satisfied with the simple things. She was a very private person and had a hard time accepting the pampering she so deserved. Her constant concern for her 'kids' was her sole purpose in life, and she always said that was her role as our mother. Mom, I hope you know how much we all loved you and no one will ever forget you. We will continue to share our stories of you forever. Thank you for all of your love throughout our lives. Rest now, and don't worry anymore.
