Obituary of Barbara Yvonne Cardinal (nee Young)

Barbara Cardinal, born April 28, 1935 in Winnipeg, MB, passed away on September 1, 2019 at Golden Links Lodge.

Left to mourn are her children; Denise Bowes (Jim), Doreen Thomas (Murray), Darlene Bonham (Gary) & Leonard Cardinal (Kathy).  Grandchildren; Charlene, Nicole, Dana, Brayden, Laurin, Hayden & Bailey (mother Cyndy) and Dana & Tammy.  Great Grandchildren; Cody, Andrew, Hannah, Nathan, Ashley & Larissa.  Siblings; Joan & John.  Close friends; Don & Suzy.

Barb is predeceased by her spouse Leonard Peter Cardinal (m. 1950, d. 1983), common-law spouse Feike Buma (d. 2007), brother Ted, sisters; Gwen & Marilyn and grandsons; Allan  & Herb.  

Barb is lovingly remembered as Sarge and Barbie from her time at Pioneer Beach, where many good memories were made. She took great pride working at the Rehabilitation Centre for Children from 1980-1993. She was an avid fisherwoman and ornithologist by hobby. Other favourite hobbies were gardening, cooking, reading, singing and playing scrabble & cribbage.

The family extends their sincere appreciation to the staff and volunteers at Golden Links Lodge for their loving care for the past 2 years, and most especially their thoughtful  support towards the family in her final days.

As per Barb’s request, there will be a private interment at Waverley Memorial Gardens at a later date.
