Obituary of Dale Arthur Grevstad

Dale (Bud) Grevstad passed away peacefully at the age of 82 on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023, with loved ones at his side. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandra, his daughters Alison (Sébastien and Thémis) and Hilary (Chris and Nicole and Tyler). He is also survived by his very special grandson, Liam, his brother Clif (Jane) and his sister Marj, his sisters-in-law Barbara Bowles, Catherine (Mernie) McGregor and Robyn McGregor (George) as well as nieces Ainsley, Gillian, Erin and Dana and nephews Andy, Carl, Graham and Keagan. He was predeceased by his brother Brian, his brother-in-law Cliff Griffith, his mother Margaret and his father Dale and his mother- and father-in-law Margaret and Bill McGregor. Bud grew up in the “capital” of East Kildonan, Morse Place, and attended Salisbury School, Melrose Junior High and Miles Mac Collegiate. It was at Miles Mac that he met Sandra when he was “forced” to take a girl on his curling team. (Curling was a lifelong passion). He also loved to sing, starring in HMS Pinafore and The Gondoliers at Miles Mac. He started his career in accounting and moved on to sales where his outgoing personality could shine. He was a people-person who never forgot a face and saw the positive in everyone and in every situation. Bud was always supportive of his daughters’ activities and became very involved in artistic gymnastics as an outstanding volunteer doing everything from setting up equipment and scorekeeping to acting as President of the Manitoba Gymnastics Association for several years. Following in his father’s footsteps, he was an amateur expert carpenter. Decks, wine-racks, tables, rec rooms, you name it, he could build it. Waking up at 5:30 am to the sound of his table saw was not an unusual occurrence in our house. Anyone who spent any time with Bud, knew what an eclectic taste in music he had and how enthusiastically he could belt out a tune (if you ever heard him sing “Take It to The Limit”, you’d understand). Bud’s sense of humour was one of a kind. He was telling Dad jokes before that became a thing. He could find humour in almost any situation and would laugh uproariously at his favourite TV shows (Seinfeld, MASH, All in the Family to name a few). He was cheerful and enjoyed everyone’s company. Above all, Bud was a family man. Time spent with his loved ones meant more to him than anything else.
