Obituary of Dennis John Hutchinson

It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis on March 21, 2023, with family by his side after a long battle with heart disease and cancer at the age of 79. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Berta (Roberta) of 59 years. His son Derrick (Jackie), grandchildren, Hailey (Michele), Nick and Mckay. His daughter Dianne (Yuma) Grandchildren, Tyler (Claire) and Krystal. Daughter in law Shannon, grandchildren Ashley (Trevor), Alisha (Chris), Scott and great grandchildren Octavian and Orion, Dennis's Brother Derrick (Kathleen) and sister Karlyn (Harry), Brother-in-law John (Lynda), Nieces and Nephews, and many friends and of course his little Penny. Dennis is predeceased by his sons John Scott and Paul, Parents Jock and Betty Hutchinson, Brother Ian, sister-in-law Kathleen, mother-in-law Annie, father-in-law Jimmy, sister-in-law Irene and brother-in-law Derek. Dennis was born in Edinburgh Scotland on January 7,1944 to Jock and Betty Hutchinson. Ratho village is where he grew up with older brothers Ian, Derrick, and sister Karlyn. In 1961he met the love of his life Berta (Roberta), they were married November 1963 at St. Nicholas church in Broxburn, where her parents Jimmy and Annie Calderwood were married, and her brother John (Lynda) still live there to this day and both families share a special bond. After completing his journeyman mechanic apprenticeship and three children later (Paul, Derrick and Dianne) along with Dennis's brother Derrick and his family they moved to Corby Northants. In November 1974, leaving many good friends and relatives behind Dennis and his family emigrated to Winnipeg Canada with help from Berta's Sister Irene and her family and they settled in quickly. Dennis worked in the trucking industry for many years working his way up to president of Maxim Trucks Bodyshop and Recycling. He enjoyed the everyday challenges that arose along the way, including golf tournaments both sides of the border (customer Related for sure) so many good friends made over the years. Coaching, referring and being a huge fan of soccer, baseball, ringette, and hockey, with his kids, then watching the grandkids, it was a big highlight in Dennis's life. Dennis refereed and coached Paul and Derrick's soccer teams and loved to watch the kids play baseball, he even played a little himself. In the winter it was going from rink to rink cheering on Dianne's ringette and the boy's hockey games. He was a huge part of their lives, and the kids loved every minute of it. Not all the grandkids were into sports, but he was right there cheering them on at all the soccer and hockey games, he became more excited the older the grandkids got. Dennis enjoyed family gatherings at the home on Sandy Hook Gold Course, loved every minute when the grandkids would stay over. The basement was built for the grandkids in mind hoping they would all sleep over more often. When we had family gatherings he would take the grandkids on rides on the golf cart, watching everyone have fun. Dennis' pride in his kids and grandkids ongoing achievements made in life really shone through. He was one proud dad and Grandad. Dennis enjoyed spending time with his friends everywhere he went, he also had them over to the house and play pool in the basement, where lots of fun was had. He was a pool shark to say the least and everyone wanted to be his partner. Dennis loved his Texas winters spent in La Floresta RV Park in Mercedes. No longer able to go south they started floor curling and shuffling in their Aspen Park Community Club. It didn't matter where he was, there was fun to be had or a joke to be told. Dennis's summers lately were spent at Inwood Golf Course, Playing in the men's league and senior League. He loved the company of good friends and the chit chat that happened at the 19th hole. His last games were played with old friends at Sandy Hook Golf Course. Dennis's love for golf showed to all who knew him. He was lucky enough to play at St. Andrews Golf Course in Scotland, Pebble Beach, and many more over the years. When playing a round of golf he'd say the most important shot was the next one. If we could have bottled Dennis's personality, attitude, and perseverance the world would be a much better place. "Forever in our hearts" The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the team at St. Boniface ICU ward and the staff at Gimli Community Health Centre for the loving care and support given to Dennis and our family. A special thank you to Dr. Adeniyi Adegbeson for his dedication and compassion over the years. In Keeping with Dennis's wishes a private family service will be held in the summer.
