Obituary of Mary Alice Cousins
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend, Mary Cousins (Danyluik) at Poseidon Care Home on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at the age of 93.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Ken (Ramona) and Jim (Denise); grandchildren Dean (Debbie), Corey (Robyn), Joanne, Crystal (Terence), Jesse (Jen); great grandchildren, Matthew, Alanna (Brendan), Callie (Nolan), Cameron (Tyler), Bria, Lev, Adyson, Ava, Mackenzie, Maddox, and Echo; great great grandson, Theodore; sister, Polly (Mike); brother Leonard; and many of her nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her adoring husband, Jim; her beloved daughter, Shirlee; her parents John and Annie; her sister Eileen; and brother Boris.
Mary was born in Vida and moved to Winnipeg to begin her adult life. As a motivated and determined woman, Mary worked hard at various jobs throughout her life before retiring from Modern Cleaners as a Supervisor.
Mom married young and had two children, Shirlee and Ken, before parting ways and subsequently meeting and marrying the love of her life, Jim and having one more son – her baby, Jimmy. Mary and Jim loved to travel, loading up the car and going on adventures. She loved playing cards, bingo, gardening, time at the cottage, and making delicious food for her friends and family. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, making the needs of others a priority. She was always ready to play with her grandchildren when we were young.
As we grew, she could always be counted on for a cup of tea, listening ear, no nonsense advice, and a shoulder to cry on.
She loved life and always tried to live it to the fullest. The past few years, Covid has made this difficult as family visits were so often restricted. She turned to her love of the Jets, Blue Jays, and games shows as distractions and ways to connect over the phone. We will all sadly miss her comforting ways and quick wit.
The family would like to thank Poseidon Care Home for the excellent care Mom received over the past 15 years.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. She will be laid to rest at Brookside Cemetery with her loving husband.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Children’s Hospital Foundation in memory of Mary Cousins.
