Obituary of Dragica "Carolina" Scap

Peacefully, with family by her side, Dragica passed on April 25, 2023, at the age of 87 after a, thankfully, very short and unexpected battle with cancer.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by Joe, her husband of 65 years; daughters Carolina (Bill) and Emilia (Rick); sons Joey and Frank; sister Moncika; daughter-in-law Vicki; grandchildren Ashleigh (Mike), Lauren (Kurtis), Mitchell (Mary Rose), Taylor (Dustin), Bailey (Toby), Brooke, and Mallory;  great grandchildren Hayden, Oliver, and Maxim; as well her extended family in Slovenia and her many friends both near and far.

Dragica was predeceased by her sisters Micka and Elonka; and her parents, Helen and Franc Lenaršič.

Mom loved spending time surrounded by her family. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, being the best fisherman in the family, reading, avidly watching curling and, most of all, spending hours-on-end immersed in her gift and passion - gardening. Her nurturing, caring and compassionate soul was a beautiful contrast to her exceptionally wry, clever, and often striking sense of humour. She will be missed by all and her spirit will live on in those whose lives she touched in her own special way.

Her earthly remains will stay with us in the places she loved the most. In Slovenia with her parents and sisters and near her beloved father's mill at her childhood home; near Kenora, at the lake where family enlivened her and she was able to rest; and, fittingly, in her garden and flower beds, as one with the soil she carefully and lovingly nurtured for seven decades.

Further arrangements are still undetermined and will be announced at a later date.

Our family would like to give a special thank you to all the caregivers at Riverview Health Centre who provided unparalleled kindness and compassion in Mom’s final days.
