Obituary of Charlotte Mulash (nee Campbell)

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charlotte Mulash. She departed our earthly world peacefully on Friday, May 12, at Misericordia Health Centre, Winnipeg, MB.

Charlotte was born in Dryden, Ontario, the daughter of John and Agnes Campbell (nee Doyle) but grew up in Ignace, Ontario where she attended grade school and high school. In 1948, she married her loving husband Jack, and together they began their family in Ignace, later moving to Kenora, Ontario in the mid 1950s.

Charlotte is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Barb and Jim Rose, as well as her daughter-in-law Pat Mulash. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Greg Taylor (Tegan) and great granddaughter Claire; Jamieson Mulash (Vanessa Kimball); and Lindsay Whitaker (David). Additionally, she is survived by her step-grandchildren: Braden Rose (Amy) and step-great grandchildren Cullen and Cassidy; and Brenlee Opinga (Ruel).

Her nieces Barbara Lundy and Judy “Sis” McKay (Jack) also remain to cherish her memory, as well as her nephews Edward Campbell; Shawn Mulasz (Jordan); and niece Barb Prang (Jim); and great nieces: Andrea Lundy; Shannon McKay; and Shelley McKay; and great nephews: Russell McKay (Dale); and Brent Lundy and sons, great-great nephews Finn and Axel.

Charlotte was predeceased by her husband Jack, her son Greg, nephews Don Flayer and Ken Campbell; nephew-in-law The Very Reverend Ron Lundy; as well as her sister and brother-in-law Marion and Hilding Flayer; brother and sister-in-law Colin “Sam” and Pearl Campbell; and younger brother Kenneth Campbell.

Charlotte worked at the Ignace post office in the late 1940’s and was promoted to the position of Postmaster in 1950, becoming the youngest member of the Canadian Postmaster’s Association, Ontario Branch, at that time. 

She had a keen ear for music which she enjoyed all her life, and was an avid reader. As a teen and young adult, she loved downhill skiing, and in later years, enjoyed mixed league bowling. She had a great love for dogs and treasured their companionship throughout her life.

Charlotte had a strong sense of faith and was a devoted member of St. Alban’s Anglican Church in Kenora, and was a member of St. Alban’s ACW (Anglican Church Women) for many years. Her spiritual beliefs provided her with strength and comfort.

Her community involvement in the 1980s and 1990s included being a member of the Order of Royal Purple, which was the women’s auxiliary of the Elks of Canada. Charlotte served in many positions and was proud to have served in the position of Honored Royal Lady in the Lodge before retiring from community volunteering.

Charlotte had an entrepreneurial spirit, and became a certified ceramics teacher, operating a successful ceramics business from her home-based studio between 1981 and 1996. After retiring from ceramics, she pursued her interest in art by trying her hand at oil painting.

After the passing of her husband, Charlotte moved to Winnipeg to be closer to family. 

She formed some close friendships at Sterling House where she lived for the past 5 ½ years, and always looked forward to daily chats and visits with other residents and staff, and enjoyed the various genres of musical entertainment each month.

Keen to learn something new and always interested in art, Charlotte took up the relaxing and rewarding hobby of adult colouring in 2020, logging countless hours of creating beautifully coloured illustrations in adult colouring books.

Charlotte witnessed an amazing array of experiences in her lifetime, and would have seen an incredible collection of socio-economic, industrial, political, and technological changes in the world of any generation.

She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

Services of Remembrance to celebrate Charlotte's life will be held in Winnipeg and Kenora on the following dates:

For those who wish to attend the service in Winnipeg, it will be held Wednesday, June 21^st at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 256 Smith Street, with Reverend Paul Lampman officiating.

For those who wish to attend the service in Kenora, it will be held Monday, June 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 429 Second Street South, with Reverend Marion Jackson officiating.
