Ed Kruger

Obituary of Ed Kruger

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Edwin (Ed) John Kruger on Thursday June 8, 2023 at the age of 79 years after a lengthy illness.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Mrytle Kruger, as well as his brother Jim Kruger.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 57 1/2 years, Denise; his children Ed (Liz) of Medicine Hat and Kim (Ryan) of Winnipeg; grandchildren Alysha (Shawn) of Edmonton, Ashley of Winnipeg, Sam and Aaron of Vancouver; sisters Marilyn (Dale) Strachan of Emo and Ellen (Jim-deceased) Andrews of Medicine Hat; and numerous brother in-laws and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ed was born May 22, 1944 to John and Mrytle Kruger in Emo Ontario. He was the third sibling of four. He loved playing outdoors and getting into trouble with some of the Emo locals. He had a love for his childhood dog Kim that would follow him everywhere. When he was just 16, he moved on his own to Montreal Quebec and worked as a helper to the race horse trainer. He loved taking care of the race horses.

A few years later Ed relocated where he met Denise through a friend of a friend at a chance meeting at Bob Martins family home in Winnipeg Manitoba. They married on November 27, 1965 in Winnipeg. Shortly after little Eddie came along and then Kim three years later.

Ed had a few careers over the years as a Carpenter, Hotel/Bar owner with family, Real Estate, Operations Manager at Hotel Airporter in Toronto and then back to what he loved most until retirement from Carpentry.

Some of his favourite times were spent with family having a drink sitting on the deck at Marilyn and Dales cabin at what we know as Clearwater Lake in Ontario, what he called the best place on earth.

He was a hardworking, fun, loving, kind-hearted husband, father, grandfather and friend that will be deeply missed.

Ed did not wish to have a funeral.

A possible Celebration of Life for close family members will be determined in the future.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to any Pulmonary Rehabilitation Fund for (COPD) and or Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation at support.cancercarefdn.mb.ca.
