Miss Nell Brabant

Obituary of Miss Nell Brabant

It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing of Nell Brabant (Pietranella Jane) on June 16, 2023, known in her community as Miss Nell.

Nell was blessed with five daughters MJ, Charmaine, Kim (Brian), Nicole (Marc) and Jacque (Merv); and four step-children Melonie (Allen), Duff, Clay (Tanya) and Angie (Croft).

From all her children and stepchildren, she has 21 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Nell is predeceased by her grandma and grandpa Valstar; grandma Fenton; mom Ruth Clary; daughter MJ (burial name Nellie Jane); grandsons Thomas Paquette and Bailey Wilton; stepson Duff Brabant and son-in-law Marc Moebis.

She grew up on the family farm outside Rocky Mountain House and enjoyed spending time with her family. She shared many stories of tormenting her siblings with her Auntie Anne.

Right after graduation Nell was fortunate to travel to Holland with her grandma Valstar, this was one of the memories she always shared with her children fondly.

Nell started her family in 1976 with her first husband, Jack.  They found out they were expecting their first daughter, who sadly passed away at birth. They went on to have four more daughters and they made a few moves until settling in Carstairs, Alberta.

Nell’s girls were always dragging kids and animals home and she always found room in her home for the extra children and animals. She was called mom by dozens over the years.

Nell started her relationship with Wayne in 1998 and he became her best friend, the love of her life and he gave her her dream of owning a small hobby farm with cows, Rosie the goat, pigs, sheep, chickens, and even a llama when they moved to Manitoba. They were married in 2007 in Sprague, MB.  It was in Manitoba she officially became a foster parent. She was passionate about helping her foster kiddos. Nell could always be found with some kind of baby animal no matter where she went. She was bringing something new home from the auction weekly.

Nell loved her time camping with family at her dad’s campground in Rocky, fishing (She was also known to out fish anyone she was fishing with) and spending time at the beaches in Alberta and Manitoba.

Nell was always willing to help out the community by being involved in the Middlebro community hall and playground boards. Even after retirement, she felt a passion and love with children, so she decided to join her daughter Charmaine at Little Rascals Preschool for several years.

Miss Nell is remembered fondly by the children and their families.

Nell was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in July 2018. She fought a good fight and kicked cancer’s ass a few times. She will be remembered as strong, resilient and brave like Goliath.

Nell didn’t want the traditional service. Her wishes were for a memorial BBQ in Rocky Mountain House on July 21st,2023. If you wish to attend please contact the family for more information.
