I first met Ron just after he retired from the City of Winnipeg. I'd heard wonderful stories about him as a trusted foreman. I then worked with one of his daughters, and one of his sons. He raised a wonderful family. Ken and I will remember his smiling face, his laughter, his honesty, and his kindness to all who knew him.
God bless you dear friend. You won't be forgotten. You are in the hearts of each member of your family. As well as each friend that you took the time to share stories and life with each say.

"Ronnie' remember the great times we'd have You, Gary and I, when we'd go joy riding.
I know you've got a car up there just waiting for the next joy ride, like we've always done
laugh from the moment we'd start until the moment we're done.
I'll be at your celebration of life but I won't be able to reminisce about you because all I'd
do is break down. Anyway, I don't think anybody there would be able to take off as long as
needed to recount all the stories, they'd cry and laugh forever, some stories are almost
unbelievable
Every time I'd tell Lise "we're going to the lake" she make you and Anne banana bread, you'd
always tell Lise how much you both enjoyed it, especially for breakfast. Then when your
beloved Anne left, Lise added salmon sandwiches and you loved those too.
In summary, I'd like to say, you are a true gentleman, a man who loved family, friends, co-workers, anybody
you'd come across, animals and good times, helping anyone who needed help, doing something for
somebody if it meant they'd smile and have a better day, giving treats to kids and animals, you thought
of everybody first and always with a smile on your face.

We, the Hansell Family (Dave/Adele, Claude, Cindy, Darryl, Dean, Davey) spent many summers with the Gilkes Family at not only Winnipeg Beach, but The Oasis. We all had a lot of fun together as young kids! We enjoyed our time immensely, but did lose touch as we got older. We remember how nice Ron and Anne were! It seems that their kindness was also evident in Winnipeg Beach, a beautiful little community. I was fortunate enough to attend the celebration of Anne's life with Anita Bowden. It was a beautiful tribute! I know that Ron's celebration of life will be equally memorable. Unfortunately, I am unable to attend, as I will be in BC spending time with my daughter. My heartfelt condolences to all of the Gilkes family on your loss of AMAZING Ron.
