Obituary of Nellie Maria Van Gorp

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nellie Maria van Gorp, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, on August 28, 2023, at the age of 83 years old.

She was born on June 28, 1940, the seventh of 13 children, to Nicolaas Antonio van de Mosselaer and Emilie Celestina van de Mosselaer, in the city of Eindhoven, Netherlands.

In April 1954, at the age of 14, she immigrated to Canada with the rest of the van de Mosselaer family, arriving in Montreal before boarding a train to their new home in Winnipeg.

Nellie was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, oma and friend. Her kindness, generosity and creative abilities were widely recognized. She was an immensely talented seamstress, crafter and gardener, who never hesitated to volunteer her skills and time, even in the face of her health challenges. She faced ongoing health issues throughout her life with a deep, inner strength and resolve. Nellie will be missed immensely by her family, friends and loved ones.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of over 50 years, Casey Sr, her sons, Casey and Trevor, her daughter-in-law, Kate, her grandchildren, Sophie and Ben, and her siblings, Rose, Anne, Maria, Peter, Al, Emmy and Helma, as well as her siblings-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street, on Saturday, September 9^th, 2023 at 10:00 am.
