Obituary of John Crawford
On October 21, 2023, our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side.
John leaves to mourn his passing his daughters May and Lynn (Marc); his son John (Lori); grandchildren Shaun, Stephen, Sarah, Evan, Kayla and Jordan; and his great-grandson Tristan. He is also survived by his sister Hester in Australia. John was predeceased by his loving wife Yvonne on May 25, 1995. His sister Jean passed away in Ireland this year.
John was born to John and May Crawford in Larne, Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland He leaves behind many close relatives in Ireland whom he loved to keep in touch with. He especially looked forward to the Irish news from his cousin Aubrey in Killyglen.
Mom and Dad started their Canadian adventure in 1953 settling in Winnipeg where they raised their family until they moved to Brandon in 1967. Dad built both their house in Brandon and cottage at Sandy Lake where we all spent many happy years. Dad was a master carpenter, and he could fix anything. He generously offered his help over these many years much to the delight and appreciation of his family. The great joys of his later years were nature, feeding the birds, reading Robbie Burns poems, listening to Irish music, playing bridge, doing the Jumble with Lynn and May, and adventures to the lake with John. He was keen to and lovingly followed the lives of his grandchildren.
A celebration of life with a few Irish songs will be held at a later date.
“So fair art thou, my bonnie lass, So deep in luve am I; And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry. “
