Obituary of Ted Higgins
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the peacefully passing of Ted at the age of 92.
Ted will be remembered by his daughter Ferne Bezdek; granddaughters Corissa (Brendan), Carleen (Jon); grandson Nathan; and great granddaughters Novalyn and Ella.
He was predeceased by his parents William and Bertha; his wife Joyce; son-in-law Tony; and two brothers.
Ted spent 35 years working in the Provincial Correctional system. Many of those years were spent as a correctional officer, starting at Vaughan Street Jail and ending at Headingley Jail. He often had fun telling people that he spent 35 years in jail, pausing just long enough to get a reaction to then tell them he got to go home each night and on weekends.
Ted and Joyce loved spending time at the family cottage on Brereton Lake where he would enjoy a dip in the water to cool off, fishing off the deck, reading and was always up for a game of cards or cribbage. They enjoyed hosting Rummoli nights with friends and family. There were fond memories made with many friends around the fire at the trailer they owned in Spruce Sands.
He loved to watch classic comedies and baseball games, especially the Blue Jays. He always had a soft spot for dogs. He was a social person, always had a friendly smile and something nice to say to everyone he would encounter.
He was known as Papa by his grandchildren and was always supportive in their interests, he was their number one fan. He was happiest to meet and spend time with his great granddaughters. They were a real light in his life and nothing would make him smile like they did.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Irene Barron Eden Centre, he enjoyed his time over the six years he lived there. They would also like to thank the compassionate and caring staff at River East Personal Care Home.
