Elizabeth Palahitski

Obituary of Elizabeth Palahitski

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother.

Betty was born on the farm in Allan, Saskatchewan, the seventh of eight children, to Frank and Kathy Senger. She lived there until age fourteen, when she moved to Thunder Bay, and by age seventeen she was on her own in Winnipeg. She married Steve Palahitski in 1949, and created a beloved family of her own.

In the late 1960’s she ended up with her second love, Harold Moggey, who she was with until his passing in 1994.

The house on Dudley where she lived for so many years was a home filled with love. Although small in size, it was a gathering place for so many throughout the years. There are cherished memories of many special celebrations, parties and family get-togethers, as well as countless visits and pots of tea shared around the kitchen table. The doors were always open to anyone who needed a refuge, and she had a special gift for making people feel welcomed and loved. She filled her home with her beloved collections, which she proudly displayed. She had so much love to give, and always had a special bond with the little ones in her life. She also had numerous cats and dogs throughout the years that she showered with love.

Betty was a hard worker, working full time caring for others until she finally retired at age 69. She looked after people with Alzheimer’s, and her secret to keeping them happy was the candies she kept in her pocket. People felt lucky to be cared for by her, with her sweet, compassionate nature.

In her free time, she loved to keep active and was always on the go. She loved shopping and was happy to have the mall in walking distance from home. She would spend many days walking to Zellers, and occasionally treating herself to A&W as well.

Her favourite thing was to spend time with her family, as they were her greatest blessing, and they were blessed in return to share in her love.

She leaves to mourn her seven children: Debbie (Rick), Brenda (Frank), June, Pearl (Stuart), Grace (Louie), Valerie, and Doug (Yvonne), as well as many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

We would like to sincerely thank the staff on the 2nd floor at Calvary Place for providing such loving care to Betty, and being so kind and welcoming to her family.

As per Betty’s wishes, there will be no formal service. Give your family a hug and tell them what they mean to you.
