Obituary of Helen Bernice Bodnaruk

Helen Bernice Bodnaruk, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on January 3, 2024, at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba after a hard battle with Alzheimer’s and her passing has left a void in the hearts of all who knew her.

Helen was a devoted wife to her husband, Alex for 64 years and their life together was truly a love story. She was a loving mother to her daughters, Cheryl (Al) and Brenda. She was also a cherished grandmother to Amanda (Paul), Raymond, Madison (Keanna) and Kristin (Kurt), and a doting great-grandmother to Myla, Aurora, Adeline, and Myles. Her family was her pride and joy, and she found immense happiness in spending time with her loved ones.

One of Helen’s greatest joys in life was spending time with her family whom she loved fiercely. She loved spending with her children and babysitting her grandchildren. She loved being dressed up and wearing her fancy jewelry and was always ready for a last minute call to drive the grandchildren to their events often with a meal or a treat in tow for them.

Helen’s extroverted nature and quick wit made her the life of every gathering, and she left a mark in the memories of all she met. She was always ready to share a laugh and make people laugh and feel at ease and welcomed. Throughout her life, Helen touched the lives of many with her sense of humour, warmth, kindness, and unwavering love. She was a dedicated friend, always ready to offer a listening ear and a comforting presence. Her compassion and empathy endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Helen was born on March 17, 1936 and was an only child. She grew up in the north end of Winnipeg and went to King Edward School. In addition to being an amazing wife and mom, she worked at various banks downtown and Kilcona Lumber. To Helen, life was a party and the workplace was no exception, and she made lasting relationships with many of her fellow co-workers.

In her retirement she continued her passion for spending time with her family and enjoyed crossword puzzles, teaching her grandchildren to play Scrabble and cards. Her sharp mind and love for word games were a testament to her intelligence and wit. That said, if she could win the game the happier she was!

A private family gathering will be held to celebrate Helen's life. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care of Helen during her time there.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire and uplift those who were touched by her presence. May she rest in peace, knowing that she was deeply cherished and will be forever missed. “Rest in peace. We Love you Big Much”.
