Obituary of John Jude Conway
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Jude Conway at the Health Science Center in Winnipeg, MB on January 13, 2024 at the age of 74 years.
Born on May 20, 1949 in Cormac, NL. John lived in many provinces but he always called Newfoundland home. He was married to his wife Lorraine for 46 years before her passing. They had four children, but sadly lost Jacqueline at the age of four in 1978. He is very proud of all his children, their spouses and his seven grandchildren. He travelled to Ontario and Alberta to spend time with Johnny and Marilyn and their families and resided with Jolene and her family in Manitoba, since Lorraine's passing in 2021.
John was a very proud father. He took any opportunity to brag about his children, their spouses and his grandchildren. He was quick to become a "dad" to many children in the community because of his coaching various sports, John was always there to help out. He had 46 years of sobriety and sponsored many people with addictions in Alcoholics Anonymous. John was always at the ball field or the hockey arena and if you didn't find him in those two places, he would be mowing lawn somewhere. He welcomed in anyone at any hour so long as you brought Tim Hortons and were up for a game of cards and some kind-hearted teasing. He will be remembered for his kind soul, his off-collar jokes and his tan.
John was survived by his three children Marilyn (Todd), Jolene (Gerald), Johnny (Laura); his seven grandchildren Lilli, Johnny, Jackie, Max, Scarlett, Jakob, Hendrix; his brother Jim (Doll); sisters Gerri, Molly (Doug), Jean, Tina (Mark); as well as numerous nephews and nieces, extended relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife Lorraine, his daughter Jacqueline, his parents Jack and Etta, his sister Theresa and his in-laws Cyril and Elsie.
In lieu of flowers, John asked donations be made to the Bethesda Foundation.
There will be a private service by invitation only.
