Obituary of Kathleen Ollie Baryski (nee Yacyna)
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Kathy on February 3, 2024 at the age of 71.
Kathy was predeceased by her father William (Bill) Yacyna (2004) and her mother Olga (Ollie) (2016); her mother-in-law Mary (1988), father-in-law Joe (1999) and her sister-in-law Agnes Baryski (2021).
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Allan and their children, daughter Karaleen Christie (Cory) grand-daughters Alexis and Paige; son Bill (Shelley) granddaughters Mercedes, Nancy, Hope; and great-grandchildren Atlas, Carlen, Colt, Maverick and Kimberly.
Kathy was born on May 17, 1952 in Winnipeg’s north end. She graduated with an LPN diploma from Red River College. While growing up she enjoyed going to the family’s cottage at Falcon Lake. She was a long time member of Kniahynia Ol’ha Ladies at the Canadian Ukrainian Institute Prosvita.
She met and married Allan on November 8, 1975. They continued using the family’s cottage and their children enjoyed the experiences immensely. Her greatest gift was her talent for cooking. She shared her dishes and baking with her family and friends. Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was very proud of all of them and she loved spending time with them.
The family thanks the support of her friend and neighbour Francis Bodykevich who assisted Allan in her care. Thank you to Fr. Darren Kawluk and the staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care.
At Kathy’s request there will be a private gathering. Donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation.
