Mary Dionne

Obituary of Mary Dionne

Sadly, we announce the passing of our dear aunt and friend, Mary Dionne on January 11, 2024 at the wonderful age of 93 years.

Mary was predeceased by her parents John and Vera Kinal; her sisters Jennie Kinal and Louise Sutherland; brother in-law Ian Sutherland; and her nephew John Kinal.

Mary was born on August 12, 1930, in Winnipeg and grew up in the Elmwood area where she was very active at the Morse Place Community Club. She especially loved to play softball.  As a young adult Mary entered the working world at the Eaton’s Catalogue Centre, eventually graduating to the finer things - cosmetics and jewelry. Mary always had great taste!  All throughout her life, Mary dressed in stylish fashion, always wearing beautiful clothing, shoes, purses, and jewelry. She loved the Holt Renfrew Store!

Air Canada called and Mary spent almost 31 years with the corporation in its offices in downtown Winnipeg working as a passenger agent.  She had a short stay working in Vancouver.  While Mary loved to travel, one of her favourite destinations was to go horse betting at the Woodbine Race Track in Toronto.  Throughout her life, she also worked part time evenings and weekends at the race track in Winnipeg.

Family was very important to Mary and she always looked forward to family gatherings and celebrations for birthdays and holidays.  For birthdays, she had the tradition of bringing a Jeannie's Bakery marble log cake which was always loved and appreciated.

She had a close relationship with her two sisters throughout her life and in later years kept in contact with frequent phone conversations.  Mary was fortunate to live a very long and full life.  She will always be lovingly remembered by her niece, nephews and their families as well as all her other relatives, her dear and very special close friends and her surviving friends from Air Canada.

Thank you to the staff at River East Personal Care Home for the wonderful care they provided Mary during her short stay.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Mary's life is planned at a later date.
