Jeanne (Jean) Sakundiak

Obituary of Jeanne (Jean) Sakundiak

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that I share the peaceful passing of my lovely mother Jean.

Jean was predeceased by her husband Maurice; parents John and Nellie Karpiak; brother Nestor Karpiak; sisters Alice Didur and Ann Djijic; and son-in-law Cale Chabot.

Jean was born in Haig (Garland, MB) with twin Emily on August 22, 1937. Jean grew up on the family farm and had a hard work ethic. She enjoyed sharing stories of how the farm operated back then. She was proud of her Ukrainian Heritage.

Over the years, she worked as a seamstress, housekeeper and in food services. Mom enjoyed playing and watching curling. Many summers were spent in Redditt Ontario foraging for berries and mushrooms, fishing and participating in the local legion events.

Jean and Maurice married in 1957 and resided in Winnipeg where they had their daughter, Patricia. Cale Chabot was a part of the family for many years and was considered a son by Jean.

Jean is survived by her daughter Patricia; her twin Emily Getchell; her sister Mary Karpiak; and loving family and friends.

Heartfelt thanks to the healthcare workers, nurses and Dr. E. Donald of E5 St. Boniface Hospital who provided comfort and dignity leading up to Jeanne’s passing.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in the Canuck Room of Henderson Legion #215 (east doors), 215 Maxwell King Drive, Winnipeg, starting at 1:00pm.
