Dear Reto
I went to kindergarten with you and we went through all of school together until graduation. You learned to be a roofer in the village of Engelberg and I learned to be a carpenter. You have been my best friend all these years!
We had so many beautiful and funny experiences together. Such beautiful years of our youth.
You were loyal, honest, collegial and you would have given anyone anything. You could be relied on.
When I passed my car test after you, I didn't yet own a car. You spontaneously loaned me your Audi quattro Coupé. With this I drove to Stuttgart DE to get a paraglider prototype. I brought the Audi back to you safely. We also often went to the Spannorthütte, an alpine mountain hut at the very back of the valley. There we enjoyed the beautiful sunsets in the west on the hut terrace. I remember when Jonny Hill played “Call Teddy Bear 1-4” and similar country music on the radio. These were always emotional moments. Or when we watched “Over the Top” with Stallone or Bud Spencer & Terence Hill films. We laughed together!
The news of your death Reto – it hit me like lightning. It makes me sad and affected.
There is much, much more to tell, it just hurts, you will be missed.
The memories will always remain and I will never forget you in my thoughts.
Farewell Reto and may the light shine for you!
My deep, heartfelt sympathy goes especially to his wife Crystal, to his stepchildren, to his mother Vreni, to his brother Ruedi with Esther and children and to all of his friends who accompanied Reto in his life.
With silent greetings and thoughts
Daniel Christen

We were fortunate to be introduced to Reto a couple years back. We hired him as our carpenter. Retro made my dream kitchen come true when my husband said it couldn’t be done. We had so many amazing chats during his time working. My family loved his infectious smile and jokes. His perfectionism in creating my dream will stand as a memorial, as I cannot enter my kitchen and not think of Reto. I will miss his free advice when I had dumb questions. We still had another project to do… Gone too soon Resto. May your memory be a blessing

I had always heard about Reto, me being from Calgary and moving to his hometown Engelberg. He left Engelberg for Canada. I got to meet him 2 years ago, he didn’t disappoint. Beautiful soul and so happy he came to gerschni. I will never forget how he looked at his wife, Crystal- he loved you- it radiated. I will always light a candle for him here. God bless you.

Reto and I went to school together and somehow we both ended up in Canada. Two years ago we were able to go back home together for a school reunion and it was such a great time! Reto, you were loved and will be missed by many.
