George Sinclair

Obituary of George Alexander Sinclair

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Sinclair on October 12, 2020 peacefully, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg. Left to cherish George’s memory is his wife Catherine; son Shawn Burgess (Mhairi Haugh); daughter Maghan Burgess; grandchildren Daigh Burgess and Valerie Burgess; and sister Lynn O'Rourke (Terry) and Christine Strutt; as well as many nieces, cousins and friends. George was born in Winnipeg on April 17, 1953 and grew up in the East Kildonan neighbourhood, attending River East Collegiate. George operated a small dairy home delivery business. He provided years of exceptional service and dedication to his wonderful customers through the inclement weather conditions. He cared and appreciated their business immensely. He also enjoyed dabbling in the sale of used cars in his spare time. In his early years George loved to ski on both the slopes and on the water. As an avid water skier, he would spend countless hours on the lake during the summer with friend’s water skiing and boating. Later, he would create many summer memories with his family on Lake of the Woods and at Longbow Lake. Those summer memories with him we will cherish forever. He had a strong affection towards all animals, and on more occasions than we can count he would bring home stray animals and offer them shelter. He would go out of his way to reunite them with their owners. The running joke in the family was that the stray animals would be drawn to him in hopes of being rescued. George also had a lot of compassion to those less fortunate. There were many weekends where he would pack up hampers and clothing donations to help others in need. More than anything, He loved being called Poppa Geo by his grandchildren. Our sincere appreciation goes out to the doctors and nurses "team of angles" at the palliative care unit at the St. Boniface Hospital. We thank you so much for everything you did for George and our family. Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic, no public service will be held at this time. For those who desire, please consider a donation to an animal shelter of your choice in George’s memory.
