Obituary of Susan Lynne Dunlop

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that on July 8, 2021, Susan Lynne Dunlop passed away peacefully at home after a year-long battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. Susan was the youngest of seven children born to Roy and Mary Dunlop. Susan grew up on the farm near Rosewood, Manitoba, and attended local schools in her elementary and middle school years. After graduating from high school in Lorette, Susan attended the University of Manitoba where she successfully achieved both a Bachelor of Science (in Mathematics) and a Master of Arts (in Agricultural Climatology). Upon completing her university studies, Susan began a career in the grain and transportation industries, in progressively senior roles across a number of leading organizations in those sectors. In 2003, Susan was forced to step away from her career as the progression of her Multiple Sclerosis (MS), which she had been diagnosed with in her 20s, limited her ability to continue her career track. Susan was predeceased by her parents, Roy and Mary Dunlop, her brother Sonny and his wife Joan, her brother-in-law Earl Asmundson, and her great nephew Tom Pugh. Left to cherish the memories of all the great times with Susan are her siblings Mavis, Ruth, Isabelle, Peter and Patrick, her nephews and nieces and their families, and her many friends near and far. Susan also leaves behind Sam, her beloved cat, who provided ongoing companionship and comfort as Susan battled MS and cancer. Susan loved getting together with family and friends, playing cards and board games, and debating politics and current affairs, always over good food and snacks. She liked to read, consuming novel after novel in no time at all, was a fantastic baker, with loads of yummy recipes, and was an avid fan of NFL football (Go Cowboys!). Susan considered herself very blessed to have a great family and group of friends. A big and heartfelt thank-you to Susan’s homecare aides Geraldine, Azeb, Jennifer, Vita and Crystal for their exceptional care and friendship, especially over the last several months. Special thanks also to Tim & Lesley Asmundson and Victor & Linda Desrosiers for always being there for all things big and small. Always a generous person, in December 2020, Susan established the Roy and Mary Dunlop Family Fund through a significant donation to The Winnipeg Foundation. This fund will provide ongoing support to a number of local and national charities, including the Canadian Red Cross, the Winnipeg Humane Society, Siloam Mission, and the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s memory can be made to the Roy and Mary Dunlop Family Fund at The Winnipeg Foundation, or to any other charity of choice. Per Susan’s wishes, there will be no public funeral service.
