Obituary of Anne Ledger
It is with sadness we announce that Enid Anne Ledger died at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg on Dec 27, 2021. She was 84 years old.
Anne will be lovingly remembered by her sons Bruce and Steve (Lori); her grandchildren Teralynn, Blake, and Chanel; her many friends with whom she had long and deep conversations (in particular, Jayne who made more than 10,000 phone calls over 30 years); and also her cat Socks.
Born in Halifax, Anne grew up in Winnipeg. After graduating from Kelvin High School, she obtained a physiotherapy diploma from the University of Alberta. She returned to Winnipeg to begin her career at the Children’s Hospital. Anne later moved to Thompson where she raised her two boys and continued her passion of working with special needs children, ultimately becoming the director of an inclusive preschool. Next she moved to Kamloops to work in a care home and pursue recreational opportunities. Finally, Anne returned to Winnipeg to care for her elderly parents while working in the school system and Northern communities.
Upon retirement, Anne remained active as a volunteer with Street Connections/Sage House, Child Find, teaching STEP Parenting classes, and leading Creative Retirement walking groups. She was also active with the Carolyn McDade Singers. Anne loved to walk, skate, rollerblade, yoga, waterski, downhill ski – doing it all into her late 70s.
Her creative passions extended to the garden and potted plants, sewing her own and other’s clothes, weaving, and making pottery and stained glass. The phone was her friend. She loved connecting with family and friends, and also travelling to British Columbia to visit her sons and grandchildren.
Special thanks are offered to Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate and competent care.
An informal service is to be planned for the summer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Mount Carmel Clinic’s Sage House.
