My “other dad.” Thank you for always looking out for us kids. You gave me wonderful memories of the corn and apple festival, the strawberry festival, the Red River Ex, so many sleep over mornings with jokes and treating us to some change for the candy at the corner store. You searched for all of the collectible items from McDonalds or Esso that we were missing and always asked about what we got up to each day. Your house was my second home and was a massive part of my upbringing. Thank you for welcoming me as one of your own and always being “around” the neighbourhood.
Your family is my second family and it means the world to me.
Condolences feel like just nowhere near enough.
Rest in peace.

Gail, Karen, and Julie -
Living across the lane as you did from our family on Matheson, Vic and I became friends in our 20s. We would chat as neighbours do, sometimes over a game of crib or coffee on our back deck. Our girls, Karen & Chelsea, met as toddlers, grew up together like sisters, and are best friends to this day.
My heart goes out to all of you at this difficult time,
Larry

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Mr. Witroway. We lived beside him my whole childhood - about 18 years we were blessed to have him beside us. When I think of my childhood, he was a big part of it. I remember him packing up all us kids and taking us to Pic-A-Pop, it felt like we were in Charlie and the chocolate factory. He LOVED his veranda. He was always out sitting in it. Walking by their house after school I would always get "Hey! How was school?" and I would tell him. When I say always, I mean it, it was every.single.time. If he was out there, 8.5 times out of 10 I was getting asked that - granted, sometimes he would be sleeping. Thinking back on it, it seems like something so small, someone just asking you how your day was. At the time, I never would have known the impact it would have on my life, but it sticks out for some reason. He didn't have to ask me that, he just did, and he would listen, he would joke, he would follow up the next day. He was probably the most consistent male figure I had growing up. Another memory that jumps out is, his little pranks. He would sneak up and say in the sternest voice "What are you doing?!?" and it didn't matter if I was 4 or 14 I would jump or stop breathing until I would look back and see the grin on his face, obviously thrilled with the fact that he got me again. He was a great man, I am so thankful, blessed & lucky to have had him in my life. Rest peacefully Mr. Witroway, and know that your smallest gestures made huge impacts on others.
Mrs. Witroway, Karen, Julie, I am so sorry for your loss.

Seeing this brought up the memories of when I worked evenings and left a couple of teen kids home…he would let me know how many “wolves” had been to the house to visit or hang out when I was gone! And while he may never had said it he left me with the impression the pack could be culled if I asked!! He always watched out for folks and let us know he was there. Not everyone can boast about such a neighbour!

My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to my Winnipeg family. Auntie Gail, Karen and Julie I am so very sorry for your loss.
I will always remember summer visits to Winnipeg and Uncle Vic’s jokes and picking on me. He always tried to sneak up and scare me, but wasn’t very good at it.
I think of him every time I see/eat ketchup, as he loved that on everything.
Keep each other close during this time and know he left you many memories to remember him by.
Love you all.

My heartfelt condolences to you all. Vic was such a great neighbour to our family all the years we lived on Lansdowne. Always willing to help out…I remember how he would blow the snow and cut the grass or let me borrow the lawn mower for the boulevard….usually with some humour and joking. Always talkative and so welcoming. He was someone who truly made me feel worthy. Your whole family was like a godsend to me at a very difficult time in my life and I thank you all and hope you can remember the good while working through the grief of your loss. Hugs to you all.
